Two satellites owned by Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) were placed in a circular orbit around the poles of 583 km from the Earth. The commercial branch of ISRO, Antrix Corporation, has made more than 220 million on this launch.
NovaSAR is a technical demonstration mission designed to test the capabilities of a new low cost S-band SAR platform. It will also be used for agricultural and forestry applications besides ship detection and monitoring of marine surveillance and floods. S-1-4 will be used to tackle environmental monitoring, urban management and disasters.
"This unique mission is mainly for the launch of 'ascending day node'. This is the first time that we have performed a different kind of mission fully," K. Shivan, President, ISRO said.
While outlining the road map for ISRO, Mr. Shivan said that in the next six months, 18 missions - 10 Satellite missions and 8 launch vehicle missions will be seen.
"We are going to be launching in almost every two weeks. Of course, the burden on us is going to grow," he said.
In the beginning of the scheduled launch in the next few months, India's second moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, is very much awaited and delayed, finally a launch window.
"Chandrayaan-2 has been planned for a window from January 3 to February 16, 2019, which we are targeting, it can be done any time during that window, but we are targeting the beginning of the window. There are 3 January, "said Mr. Shivan.
"With the status of the rocket, with the current situation of GSLV MK-3M1, and the satellite, we are not expected to delay further. Testing is going on at the same time. If unexpected things happen, then it has some effect. But right now, we are not expecting any delays. "
He said that other launches include the GSAT series, which would give the bandwidth speed of 100 GBps per second as part of government's Digital India efforts.
Mr. Shivan said that cartosat and risat satellites will also be launched in the next six months.
